Summer Travels

A week of seminars, Vendors, classes about beading, sewing clothes for the Vets, woodcarving, and paper folding, at the Gillette, Escapade

Lots of lunches on the run between events and dinners with friends and fun evening entertainment sponsored by Guarantee RV. They had great comedians, and motivational speakers, and country bands.

Sue gave a seminar on Geocaching From The Road and it was well received by abut 110 people. They could practice finding cache around the grounds that we placed there.

After a SMASHING firewords display on the 4th, and lots of Marguritas from our new neighbors, most SKP’s left for “down the Road” on the 5th.

We stayed for 3 more days to attend and get certified by the Red Cross Disaster Training. We joined a SKP Chapter called the DOVES (Disaster Operation Volunteer Escapees) Now we could be called out for disaster relief around the country. It was a tedious course, but worth the time.

We enjoyed finding Sue’s friend Helene Oborski, who used to work at Kaiser with Sue. She actually lived in Gillette and was right behind the CamPlex where we parked. She is retired now and is actually opening up a new donut shop in town. We tasted her donuts prior to opening day, and boy were they yummy. We also enjoyed meeting her 13 yr old niece who she has raised. Helene is also homeschooling Cathy for 8th grade.

Leaving Gillette WY on the 7th we have been trying to get across the state to Souix City, Iowa. There are so many stops with historical value and also fun attractions that it’s taking us 4 days to get to Iowa.

Yes, we have been Geocaching along the way. Trying to get a couple in all states we can touch. We thought we had one in Minnasota, but it ended up being in SD right on the border. We got many in WY, a few in Iowa and 3 in Nebraska. We are up to 1,100 found caches so far.

We have gotten our National Park/Monument books stamped in about 5 places now. I don’t think we will ever see all our historic NP’s. But we keep trying. Saw PipeStone monument yesterday. Still can’t figure why the NP figures this one to be worth a visitor center and staff. But to the Indians , it’s important.

It’s July 10th today. Should be in AR by tonight. Anxious to see my girls.

Sue and Ken

PS: we sure do miss our Californa Kids and family too. Hope you are all doing well. Have fun in China, Zhangs.
