New Years at Lake Mittry 2011

Can you imagine sitting by the lake in Yuma Arizona, parked in your RV with many of your favorite friends and having a class in blogging. Here 5 of us are all set up with computers connected to the internet via aircards, routers and MiFi’s. Not a electric pole in site.  Jan Moore is teaching us how to use “Microsoft Live Writer” as a basis for writing and posting pictures to our blogs.

SAM_0256This morning the sun popped up warm and beautiful so 6 lively hikers suited up for a 6 mile hike, led by Tom Moser.  2 gals, Judy Sheeley and Dee Richmond along with the guys, Ken Pace, Tom Moser, a new Canadian friendNick, and Bruce Richmond. They had water, snacks and hiking poles, and they started up the hill at 9:15am and returned happy and tired at 11:30am. They took some great pictures from the top, showing our RV’s below on the playa.

DSC06555While they did a difficult and high climbing hike, the rest of us in camp took lesser hikes along the road enjoying the lake and early morning fishermen.  The ducks and egrets were happily swimming and sunning themselves along the lake banks.

Ken came back and decided to get the fire pit ready for the evening fire. We brought a load of wood from home and it keeps us cozy in the evening breeze.

So we are enjoying a week at Mittry and hope to bring in the New Year with a bang. We are planning a pot luck dinner or if it’s too cold or rainy, we will all go to the Golden Corral Buffet. A Z circle is being planned and the time frame for it is being discussed. A few people want to be on East coast time getting to “midnight “ at 9pm our time enabling them to get to bed earlier than midnight.

Happy New Year and love your blog. I, too, love to use Live Writer and will get back to blogging as soon as we hit the road full time on Jan 9. Right now we are trying to get all the important stuff packed up, the unimportant stuff given away, and the junk tossed in the dumpster. Wish we were there for your Z-circle. We'll see you at Q for the geocaching BOF.

Wow! A post from Ken and Sue! A six mile hike in 2 1/4 hours - that's some fast hiking. Happy New Year, you guys!
