It was supposed to rain this weekend, but to our delight, it only drizzled and did not stop us from having some fun visiting several nearby places.
Saturday, Ken and I along with Linda and baby Talia went out to see Tarpon Springs. It is a quaint little village town along the waterfront speckled with many boats, gift shops and eateries. The main attraction in this whole town is the history of SPONGES. They don’t go out to catch fish, they use their boats and go harvest SPONGES. We viewed a movie on how this is done, and the history of these people who immigrated from Greece. The whole town has a Greek flair. We heard street music, and ate wonderful bakery goods which came here from Greek culinary foods. We tried the Greek Coffee, but it was a bit too strong for our liking. Sunday, Ken and I went off by ourselves and spent the day driving around looking for interesting places that we have read about. After attending church, we headed toward St. Petersburg, and Pete’s beach on the Gulf of Mexico.
It was a lovely warm day, and we enjoyed the breeze from the gulf. We did some geocaching along the way and on the way back we saw some of St. Petersburg warf and downtown. We were looking for a famous waterfall that was supposed to be in town on a high-rise building, cascading down into a pond. the highest man made building waterfall in the country. Interesting and very unusual to find mid city.
And when we got home from our wandering, we relaxed doing something we have never done before. Putting together a puzzle. Yes, it was an easy one but it was fun never the less.
